Animals in 38 species have been found to become infected with the bacterium that causes Lyme Disease. Most notably, dogs can become ill from the Borrelia bacteria, and that our canine companions can end up with Lyme Disease. As with humans, proper diagnosis and definitive answers are difficult; symptoms can mimic other illnesses. One of the most common is arthritis and heart disease caused by the bacterium.
